Kauai native Yates re-signs with Pirates for 1 year, $1.3 million

Relief pitcher Tyler Yates, a Kaua'i native, avoided arbitration, agreeing to a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates today.
Yates, a right-hander who was traded from Atlanta to Pittsburgh last year, will get $1.3 million plus $25,000 in performance bonuses, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He was 6-3 with a 4.66 ERA and had 63 strikeouts in 73 1/3 innings last season.
Yates, a Kaua'i High and Hawai'i-Hilo alum from Lihue, made $800,000 last season.
He made his major league debut in 2004.
