1 dead, 1 critical after Nanakuli 3-car crash

A three-car accident in Nanakuli yesterday morning left one person dead, one in critical condition and two others in serious condition.
According to Honolulu police, a 1985 Buick two-door sedan driven by an 18-year-old man and heading west crossed the median and collided with an east-bound 1994 Toyota four-door sedan driven by a 36-year-old man at around 6:54 a.m.
The impact sent the Toyota into the outer east-bound lane, where it was struck by a 2005 Chevrolet four-door sedan driven by a 72-year-old woman.
The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene, the seventh traffic fatality of the year compared with five at the same point last year.
The driver of the Buick was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition.
The driver and front-seat passenger of the Chevrolet were also taken to Queen's, in serious condition. A backseat passenger in the car was not injured.
It was not known whether speed, drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
The accident closed Farrington Highway in both directions between Pohakunui Avenue and Laumania Street. Traffic was rerouted via bypass onto Laumania.
