The state Department of Land and Natural Resources has announced a fishing season closure for the so-called “Deep 7” bottomfish.
The ban is effective July 6 through Aug. 31 in all state waters and covers commercial and non-commercial fishers.
The Deep 7 bottomfish species include onaga, opakapaka, ehu, kalekale, gindai, lehi and hapuupuu.
The Deep 7 and other bottomfish are managed cooperatively by the state and federal governments.
