Firefighters battle wildfire in Waiawa, brush fire in Makakilo

Honolulu Firefighters are battling a wildfire spread over 250 acres in Waiawa, just above Waipiço.
The fire, first reported around 3:40 p.m., has not yet been contained but firefighters have established a perimeter and will continue to monitor the situation overnight, according to Honolulu Fire Department spokesperson Capt. Terry Seelig.
Seven HFD engines, four tankers and two helicopters responded to the fire. Federal firefighters joined the effort with four engines and two tankers; a Honolulu Police Department helicopter also assisted.
Meanwhile, four HFD engines responded to a 15-acre brush fire in Makakilo, just below the Makakilo Hale II townhouse complex, after a 5 p.m. call.
Residents were asked to evacuate as the fire advanced to about 50 yards of the complex before it was contained around 5:45 p.m.
