POREC, Croatia — James Blake will face Ivo Karlovic in the opening singles match in the Davis Cup quarterfinal between the United States and Croatia.
Blake is the top-ranked U.S. player for the series after Andy Roddick withdrew because of an injury. Roddick hurt his hip in a fall during the Wimbledon final loss to Roger Federer.
The draw on Thursday also pits Croatia's Marin Cilic against Mardy Fish, Roddick's replacement, in the second singles match on Friday.
In doubles play Saturday, Mike and Bob Bryan will meet the 6-foot-10 Karlovic and Lovro Zovko.
The U.S., which has won the Davis Cup 32 times, has lost both of its previous encounters with Croatia.
