Kimberly Kim struggles to 82 in first round of U.S. Women's Open

Big Island native Kimberly Kim shot a 11-over-par 82 in the opening round today of the U.S. Women's Open at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa.
Na Yeon Choi shot a 3-under 68 for a one-stroke lead over Christie Kerr, Lorena Ochoa and Jean Reynolds.
Kim had one birdie, seven pars, eight bogeys and two double bogeys in her round today. She hit 7 of 14 fairways and nine greens in regulation. She averaged 1.94 putts per hole.
Kim, 17, moved from Hilo to attend high school in Arizona. She will attend the University of Denver in the fall.
Honolulu's Michelle Wie is not in the field this week after she failed to qualify in a sectional qualifier last month. She had played in every U.S. Women's Open since 2003 when she was 13.
