Near drowning reported at UH swimming pool

A young woman who nearly drowned this morning at a swimming complex on the University of Hawaii campus in Manoa was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department, said city paramedics were sent to the Duke Kahanamoku swimming complex on Lower Campus Road about 8:15 a.m. and transported the woman, who appeared to be in her early 20s, to a nearby hospital to be treated for an apparent near drowning.
Details of the incident were not immediately available. Police are investigating and described the woman's condition immediately after the incident as "extremely critical."
