HILO, Hawaii — The Coast Guard was called on to rescue three people whose boat was sinking off the Big Island.
Fire Department officials say a rescue boat was launched from Pohoiki Bay to begin the search early Wednesday.
They say a Coast Guard helicopter and a C-130 search-and-rescue plane also responded to the distress call.
The Coast Guard chopper rescued the people 1 mile off Kehena Beach and flew them to Hilo International Airport.
