Coast Guard rescues 3 from sinking boat off Big Island
The Coast Guard yesterday was called on to rescue three people whose boat was sinking off the Big Island.
Fire Department officials said a rescue boat was launched from Pohoiki Bay to begin the search early yesterday.
They said a Coast Guard helicopter and a C-130 search and rescue plane also responded to the distress call.
The Coast Guard helicopter rescued the boaters a mile off Kehena Beach and flew them to Hilo International Airport.
