Stanley propels U.S.

Honolulu's Clay Stanley scored 18 points, including 14 on kills, to lift the United States to a 25-21, 32-30, 31-29 victory over the Netherlands last night at Wichita, Kan.
The victory clinched a spot in the final round of the World League men's volleyball tournament.
Stanley, a Kaiser High and University of Hawai'i alum, also had two blocks and two aces.
The United States clinched its four-team pool with an 8-3 record with one match remaining against the Netherlands (4-7) tonight. Other teams in the pool are Italy (7-4) and China (3-8). Three other pool winners, an at-large pick and host Serbia will join the United States in the finals, July 22-26, at Belgrade.

STRICKLAND HIRED AS WOMEN'S ASSISTANT
University of Hawai'i head women's tennis coach Jun Hernandez announced the hiring of Bridgette Strickland as an assistant coach for the Rainbow Wahine.
Strickland competed against the Rainbow Wahine the past three years as a member of the Utah State women's tennis team.
