Two ballet legends to perform in Hawaii
Two Grand Masters of dance will be in Hawaii this September as the Baryshnikov Arts Center and Ballet Hawaii present "Three Solos and a Duet," a contemporary dance performance with participation of two dance legends – Mikhail Baryshnikov and Ana Laguna.
The performances will be at the Hawai‘i Theatre Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. and Sept.13 at 2 p.m.
Baryshnikov and Laguna will kick off Ballet Hawaii’s 2009 fall season in a performance of “Place,” which Mats Ek created especially for them. Ek also conceived “Solo for Two,” originally made for the Cullberg Ballet. Finally, Baryshnikov will perform a new solo by Alexei Ratmansky (former artistic director of the Bolshoi Ballet and now artist in residence at the American Ballet Theatre) and a new solo by Benjamin Millepied (first soloist at the New York City Ballet).
Ana Laguna has received numerous accolades for her indelible performances with Stockholm’s Cullberg Ballet where she danced major roles created for her by its artistic director Mats Ek.
Tickets go on sale Saturday and are priced from $50 to $125 at the Hawaii Theatre Box Office, www.hawaiitheatre.com or call 528-0506.
There also will be a $175 VIP Dinner Show Package available through Ballet Hawaii that includes a premium show ticket, dinner, and reserved parking. Call 521-8600 for details.
