WASHINGTON — Never mind health care. How 'bout those blue jeans?
"I heard they were cracking on my jeans," President Obama said of the postgame review of the baggy pants — "mom jeans" to some — he wore while throwing the ceremonial first pitch at Major League Baseball's All-Star Game.
In a White House interview with NBC News' Meredith Vieira that aired Tuesday, Obama was asked about weighty policy issues and foreign affairs — and if he'd like to defend his pants.
"No ... here's my attitude," he said. "Michelle, she looks fabulous. I'm a little frumpy."
And then he went on to defend the jeans anyway:
"Those jeans are comfortable. For those of you who want your president to look great in his tight jeans, I'm sorry, I'm not the guy.
"It just doesn't fit me — I'm not 20."
