Pickup crash victim was legally drunk

Advertiser Staff

A former Roosevelt High School basketball player who was thrown from a vehicle in a single-car crash and died Sunday had a blood-alcohol content almost three times the legal limit.

The Medical Examiner's Office said Alexis Tatiana Beasley, 21, had a blood-alcohol content of 0.227. The legal limit is .08. Other toxicology test were negative, the Medical Examiner's Office said yesterday.

Police were still investigating and trying to determine whether Beasley was the driver of the 1993 Nissan pickup truck or a passenger, said Michelle Yu, police spokeswoman.

Police initially said Beasley may have been in the bed of the pickup truck when it slammed into a concrete barrier at about 1:45 a.m. Sunday. At that time, police said the driver apparently left the truck and fled the crash scene, leaving Beasley to die on roadway.

Beasley was named to The Advertiser's All-State first team in her senior year in 2006. She helped lead Roosevelt to a second-place finish in the Division I state tournament that year.
