Honolulu Fire Department rescue crews this morning airlifted an injured hiker from Waiähole Uka trail.
The hiker, a woman in her 50s, apparently broke her ankle while walking along the trail with a companion, according to HFD spokesperson Capt. Earle Kealoha. The companion was able to hike three-fourths of a mile down to a nearby residence and called emergency around 10:21 a.m..
Rescue workers reached the woman at 10:49 a.m. and placed her in a Stokes basket to be airlifted off the trail via helicopter. She was taken to a landing area at Waiähole Beach Park, where she received treatment from Emergency Medical Services, Kealoha said.
