NFL: 49ers place Harris on injured reserve

SANTA CLARA, Calif. San Francisco 49ers starting cornerback Walt Harris will miss the entire season as he recovers from right knee surgery.
Harris was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, a serious blow for the team three days before training camp opens and heading into Mike Singletarys first full season as coach.
Harris, a 13-year pro heading into his fourth year with the 49ers, has been a model of consistency in his lengthy career, never missing more than four games in a season. Harris veteran presence was expected to be a cornerstone of Singletarys defense, particularly given the lack of depth behind him.
San Francisco also placed defensive lineman Ricky Jean-Francois on the non-football illness list.
