Honolulu-based Alakona Corp. said it will be able to resurface roads faster and more efficiently with a German-made paving machine just added to its fleet.

The $350,000 state-of-the-art Vogele 5100-2 tracked paver can lay a swath of asphalt up to 15 feet wide, or the equivalent of an entire lane, the company said.

Alakona also is the first company in Hawai'i to offer Green Mix Hawaii, a surface made from 100 percent recycled material.

HAWTEL URGED TO REVEAL LOAN SOURCE

Hawaiian Telcom Communications Inc. should name the source of a $300 million senior loan in a proposed turnaround plan, the U.S. Justice Department told a judge.

Assistant U.S. Trustee Tiffany Carroll on Tuesday put the loan's missing source atop a list of comments faulting the outline of Hawaiian Telcom's plan in a filing in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Honolulu. Under the plan, about a billion dollars in debt would be converted into equity in the reorganized company.
