Glennie Adams, a Kamehameha Schools alum and former All-America volleyball star for the University of Hawai'i at Hilo, has returned to her high school alma mater.

Adams, who recently served as assistant athletics director and head coach for the women's volleyball team at Chaminade University, will become associate athletic director for the Kapalama campus.

Adams will oversee the Warriors' programs in air riflery, riflery, softball and boys and girls cross country, tennis, water polo, diving, soccer and track and field.

She replaces long-time associate athletic director Erv Kau, who retired earlier this summer after 26 years of service.

"We are very pleased to have Glennie join our ohana as an associate athletic director," Kanani Souza, the school's athletic director, said in a prepared statement. "Glennie is an outstanding coach and mentor and her extensive background in high school and college athletics is a plus for Kamehameha Schools."

Adams lettered in track and field, volleyball, softball and basketball, graduating in 1978. She earned a degree in psychology at UH-Hilo and a master's degree in social work at UH-Manoa.

MILILANI ADVANCES

Troy Kakugawa and Jimmy Madrid teamed on a seven-hitter as Mililani beat Campbell, Calif., 3-2, yesterday to capture the P.O.N.Y. Pony 13 West Zone Tournament title at Fullerton, Calif.

Mililani, which finished the tournament 4-0, advances to the World Series in Chino Hills, Calif. Mililani opens tomorrow against Bergen Beach, N.Y.

Kakugawa pitched 5 2/3 innings, giving up six hits and two unearned runs. Madrid worked out of trouble in the final two innings, striking out Campbell's cleanup batter with runners on second and third to end the game.

Kakugawa's suicide squeeze in the second inning scored two runs and gave Mililani a 2-0 lead.
