The Seattle Seahawks have signed second-round draft choice Max Unger to a four-year contract that guarantees $1.95 million, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity last night because the team had yet to announce the deal and has a policy of not releasing terms.

Unger, a Hawai'i Preparatory Academy alum, is a versatile lineman who played tackle his first two years at Oregon and then moved to center for his final two seasons.

Unger was selected 49th overall in April.

He was a player Seattle liked so much the Seahawks considered picking him with the 37th pick. That consideration ended when the Broncos offered their first-rounder in 2010 for the pick.

When Unger was still on the board at No. 49, the Seahawks traded their third- and fourth-round picks to move back into the second round and snag Unger.

He played left guard during the offseason minicamps, a spot where Mike Wahle was the starter when last year began. Wahle missed Seattle's offseason minicamps after undergoing shoulder surgery, and Unger is expected to compete for playing time at guard or center during training camp.

BURRESS TESTIFIES

Former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress testified yesterday before the grand jury that is investigating weapons charges against him and told reporters outside that he was sorry for his actions.

"I was truthful, I was honest, and I'm truly remorseful for what I've done and for what happened," Burress said outside a Manhattan (N.Y.) courthouse.

The 31-year-old Burress shot himself in the thigh at a Manhattan nightclub in November. He was charged with weapon possession and faces up to 3 1/2 years in prison. He has pleaded not guilty and is free on $100,000 bail. The Giants released him in April.
