Hawaii schools in national standards program

Gov. Linda Lingle and state School Superintendent Patricia Hamamoto are announcing Hawaii’s participation in a nationwide program that develops a common core of standards for public schools.
The national effort will be led by the Council of Chief State School Officers and the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices.
Lingle and Hamamoto co-signed a memorandum of agreement that commits Hawaii to participate.
Lingle says the fact that many of Hawaii’s high school graduates require remedial assistance in college and in the workplace demonstrates the importance and urgency of this effort.
