SAN DIEGO — Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan were among those who called Jamie Moyer to congratulate the 46-year-old Phillies lefty for winning his 250th game on Sunday.

Nutter called Moyer on Monday afternoon while the pitcher was sitting in the stands at Petco Park several hours before Philadelphia opened a series against the San Diego Padres.
“He just said, Congratulations,” said Moyer, who beat the Washington Nationals 4-2 for the milestone victory. “It was an awfully nice gesture that he thought of me and took time out of his busy day and schedule to acknowledge my accomplishment. He’s obviously a nice man.”
Moyer said he got about 50 phone calls and text messages.
“I talked to Nolan Ryan today,” said Moyer. “He was an ex-teammate of mine. Aaron Sele called me, he too was an ex-teammate and a couple of people who I played college baseball with and my college coach George Bennett, who left a message.
“I heard from numerous friends from around the country,” Moyer said.
Moyer became the 44th pitcher to win 250 games and only the 11th left-hander to accomplish the feat.
