At 5 feet 7 inches, Waipahu pitcher Tryton Gante may not have been the biggest physical presence on the mound.
But he did have a presence — big enough to receive Player of the Year honors in the O'ahu Interscholastic Association's White Conference.
Gante, a senior, played a big role in helping the Marauders go 11-1 en route to the White championship.
In a victory over McKinley on the season's opening day, Gante combined with Drake Yoshioka on a four-hitter and went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs.
Gante later threw a no-hitter with seven strikeouts and had a home run to beat Waialua. He also combined with Kaimi Haina on a no-hitter against Kaimuki, with nine Ks.
Then in key games down the stretch, he earned the save and went 3 for 4 in a victory over Radford and tossed a two-hitter to defeat Kahuku in the White semifinals.
Gante is joined by four other Marauders on the White All-Star first team: shortstop Yoshioka, first baseman Aldrin Padilla, third baseman Sam Chee and catcher Ignatius Mackenzie.
Kahuku was represented by pitcher Roger Van Ness and outfielders St. John Lessary and Tima Taposoa. McKinley placed second baseman Masa Kato and utility player Kelsen Ganeku.
Radford outfielder Zachary Lagier and Kaimuki designated hitter Eddie Char round out the first team.
McKinley's Shayne Greenland was named Coach of the Year after guiding the Tigers to a 9-3 runner-up finish in his first year at the helm.
