Dirt-bike program back on track with trailer's return
A budding community outreach dirt-bike program for teens at risk in Wai'anae came to a screeching halt last week when thieves made off with the club's dirt bike trailer.
The kids in the club and Michael Fister, director of the program, held out little hope that the trailer would be ever be found. Still, they dutifully put out flyers with a photo of the trailer.
This week, following an anonymous telephone call to Fister, the trailer mysteriously turned up not far from where it was swiped. Fister says an unidentified Wai'anae High School senior recognized the trailer from the flyer photo, told his dad, and the two did some amateur sleuthing. They also refused the reward offer. Now that the club is rolling again, Fister and the kids say they are proud to live in a community where most folks do the right thing.
