A man died in an apparent drowning and his daughter injured when their Zodiac capsized off Keauhou today in rough seas, the Hawaiçi County Fire Department said.
The boat capsized in rough shore break, which firefighters say contributed to the 6 p.m. incident. Firefighters found the man floating face down and the 13-year-old in severe distress with head injuries. Before they could bring the man to shore, a man on his personal watercraft scooped him up and brought him to shore while firefighters brought girl in at the Keauhou Pier.
Firefighters used their helicopters to assist in the rescue. The man’s identity was not released pending notification of next of kin.
