Steven Donohue, son of former Honolulu Police Chief Lee Donohue, has died of injuries suffered Friday in a motorcycle accident on H-1 Freeway.
It was the state's fourth motorcycle fatality in a week and the 21st of 2009, compared with seven at this time a year ago.
HPD spokesman Maj. Frank Fujii confirmed that Donohue is the former chief's son and said the family had requested privacy.
Donohue, 43, was traveling west on H-1 when he apparently lost control of his 2004 Suzuki motorcycle while exiting on the right-bending Wilder Street off-ramp and skidded into a wooden utility pole, according to police.
He was taken in critical condition to The Queen's Medical Center, where he later died.
The accident took place at 5:25 p.m. Police say speed was an apparent factor.
A Big Island man was killed Wednesday in Kona when he lost control of his motorcycle after passing another vehicle.
And a Big Island father and son were killed a week ago today when the motorcycle they were riding collided with a car in Pahoa.
