Perfection is the ultimate goal in any level of sports, but rarely achieved.
Farrington's Taylor Ibera is one of the scarce few who can claim perfection, after an unbeaten high school judo career.
As a freshman, Ibera won the first of four straight individual state championships, helping the Governors capture the overall team title. She stayed in the 98-pound weight class the following three years and became only the third Hawai'i judoka to win four individual state championships.
She never lost a single match.
Ibera also won individual wrestling state titles as a junior and senior, and this past year she was named OIA Eastern Division Wrestler of the Year.
Ibera's judo prowess is recognized far beyond Hawai'i's shores.
She has won gold medals at the USA Judo Open International Championships, Rendez-Vous Canada Judo Championships and Pan American Union Judo Championships.
This is in addition to eight gold medals won at national competitions, and in 2006, Ibera was named U.S. Judo Federation Jr. Female Athlete of the Year.
Off the mat, Ibera carried a 3.2 grade-point average and she will attend San Jose State University, where she plans to major in sports medicine.
