Earning 11 varsity letters since his freshman year, 'Iolani's Kela Marciel had a very busy and very productive high school sports career that resulted in many victories for the Raiders.
It began as a freshman with a spot in the rotation on 'Iolani's basketball state championship team, then as a starting right fielder on the baseball team.
As a sophomore, Marciel was a second-team ILH football all-star at cornerback, starting point guard in basketball and starting shortstop in baseball.
As a junior, he moved to quarterback and threw for 2,518 yards and 22 touchdowns in helping the Raiders win the Division II state title. He was named to The Advertiser's DII All-State first team and also earned ILH all-star first-team honors as a punter.
Marciel then helped 'Iolani recapture the ILH basketball championship and started again at shortstop in baseball.
As a senior, he played cornerback, receiver and punter in football and was named as an all-purpose player on The Advertiser's DII All-State first team. In basketball, Marciel was recognized as one of the ILH's top defenders and helped the Raiders reach the state semifinals.
And in baseball he moved to second base and helped 'Iolani win its first league title since 1997 and first state tournament berth since 2000.
In all three sports, Marciel was named team captain.
Meanwhile, he maintained a 2.8 grade-point average and participated in school service projects, including feeding the homeless and serving as a "Big Brother" mentor to an elementary school student.
Marciel will attend Weber State University on a football scholarship this fall and plans to major in either business or sports administration.
