With near-flawless pitching, 'Iolani senior Brittney Guro helped the Raiders achieve a near-perfect record in winning their first Interscholastic League of Honolulu softball championship since 2001.
Recognizing her efforts, league coaches named Guro ILH Player of the Year after a recent vote.
Guro, a right-hander, allowed only one earned run all season and had 110 strikeouts in 94 innings in leading 'Iolani to a 13-1 regular-season record. She pitched three one-hitters, four two-hitters, two three-hitters, one four-hitter and two five-hitters.
Guro is joined on the ILH all-star first team by three other Raiders: first baseman Shanna Tashiro, third baseman Kim Souza and shortstop Jana Tokuhama.
Runner-up Mid-Pacific had three first-team selections: second baseman Corrie Murashige, outfielder Mari Tanaka and pitcher Keiki Carlos.
Pac-Five placed outfielders Samantha Ford and Chante' Tesoro.
St. Francis catcher Briana Tovio-Asato, Sacred Hearts pitcher Joslyn Eugenio, Punahou designated player Mysha Sataraka and Maryknoll utility player Hillary Uekawa round out the first team.
'Iolani's Lance Watanabe was named Coach of the Year.
