Tax department says revenues off 9.8% through 11 months of fiscal year

State revenue collections are off by 9.8 percent through 11 months of the fiscal year, the state Department of Taxation reported today.
The revenue decline is higher than the latest estimate from the state Council on Revenues, which has projected a 9 percent decline through the fiscal year that ends in June.
The council's lower forecast threw the two-year budget approved by the state Legislature out of a balance and led Gov. Linda Lingle to order furloughs of state workers to close the deficit.
