Firefighters find lost hunter with cell phone technology
Cell phone technology helped Kaua'i firefighters rescue a lost hunter in Koke'e on Saturday.
A 71-year-old Wailua man called 911 on his cell phone to report he was lost.
Through the county's Enhanced 911 system, police dispatchers were able to immediately locate the call on a map and give the man's latitude and longitude to firefighters from the Waimea station.
Using the coordinates, firefighters found the hunter at the end of Polihale Ridge Road about midnight.
"Thanks to the advancements made in technology with the E911 system, police dispatch and our firefighters were able to quickly respond to a person in distress," said Kaua'i Fire Chief Robert Westerman.
The enhanced 911 system was put into service on Kaua'i in 2007.
