An electric Tesla Roadster owned by Blue Planet Foundation founder Henk Rogers will be on display tomorrow at a news conference in front of the state Capitol.
Blue Planet is using the vehicle to demonstrate the potential of electric-powered cars in Hawai'i.
The Tesla breaks most of the stereotypes of electric vehicles today. It is among the fastest on the road, with a sleek carbon-fiber body and the ability to travel nearly 250 miles on a single charge.
The car will be on display beginning at 9:30 a.m. on the Beretania Street sidewalk fronting the Capitol.
GASCO RATES GOING UP TOMORROW
Customers of the Gas Co. will see their first rate increase in eight years.
Gasco, which has 35,000 customers statewide, said the state Public Utilities Commission approved an interim rate increase that will go into effect tomorrow.
Typical customers on O'ahu will see their rates increase $7.67 a month, or 13.9 percent, to $62.87. Customers on Maui will see their rates go up 9.1 percent, and Big Island customers will get a 7.4 percent rate hike.
The company said the new rates will increase annual revenues by $9.5 million.
HAWAIIAN TELCOM E-MAILS FAKED
Hawaiian Telcom is advising customers to be suspicious of any e-mails that purport to come from Hawaiian Telcom that request personal information, such as the customer's user name, password or account number.
The messages are fraudulent and should be deleted without replying, the company said.
"Hawaiian Telcom never sends e-mail messages asking for this type of information," said John Komeiji, senior vice president and general counsel at Hawaiian Telcom. "Phishing scams are increasing in occurrences and sophistication, and we must rely on the good sense of our customers to be the first defense against these threats so they do not become victims of fraud or identity theft."
HAWAIIAN AIR BEST ON-TIME IN APRIL
Hawaiian Airlines had the best on-time record among the nation's largest airlines in April.
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, Hawaiian's planes were 91.1 percent on time for the month.
Hawaiian also tied for fewest cancellations and had the second-best record for mishandled baggage.
