High-surf advisory issued for all south-facing shores
The National Weather Service says a high-surf advisory remains in effect until midnight today for south-facing shores of all islands.
Surf along south shores was forecast at 6 to 10 feet last night and will slowly diminish today, dropping below 8 feet tonight.
A high-surf advisory means that large waves could produce dangerous rip currents and some localized beach erosion.
Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department, said that while the surf so far has not been as large as anticipated, lifeguards are continuing to urge beachgoers to practice caution.
