The Pussycat Dolls lead singer Nicole Scherzinger took some time while on the road to answer a few questions.
TGIF: What was it like getting started in the entertainment business, pre-Pussycat Dolls?
It was hard early. My mom had to be there to tell me to never give up. Rejection after rejection. She always said it was God teaching me a lesson, but I kept asking her, 'How many more lessons would he teach me?"
TGIF: What makes a Pussycat Dolls show special or separates it from other concerts?
People don't really get it until they see a live performance. There's no lip synching. I sing my heart out every night, and it's full-on dancing. I don't know any groups who dance as hardcore and sing like we do. The combination makes it a fun live show. We love to connect with the audiences.
TGIF: What's the weirdest request you've had?
One time, when I was sleeping on a plane, I woke up and I had a fan hovering over me watching me sleep. He was waiting with pen and paper until I woke up for an autograph.
TGIF: Ever karaoke?
(Laughs). When I was younger. I love karaoke. Every once in a while, I'll go out, but for the most part, I'm always working. It's nice to go out and chill with friends doing it.
TGIF: Worst paparazzi moment?
To tell you the truth, I just had a couple days break with my boyfriend (in Switzerland, with Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton) and tried to get away from everything. They did a real good job of trying to ruin it. They chased us for a couple of days. We don't get much time together. It's sad, but you have to kind of hide from them.
TGIF: What's a perfect night for you when you're not performing?
Movie, beautiful dinner and good sleep. I want it to be a funny movie.
TGIF: What type of music do you listen to?
All kinds. Some of my favorite is Hawaiian music like Bruddah Iz, but I also like Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, Beyoncé. I love rock, soul, all kinds. A lot of people don't know I went to school for singing, so I do some classical, musicals and theater.
TGIF: Europe or America?
I love Europe, but there's no place like America. There's no place like home.
TGIF: Saturday's concert is the official end of the Doll Domination Tour. What's next for you?
I'll take some time, maybe, do some acting, work on some songs.
