Police officers were out in force yesterday on North School Street in Kalihi to enforce pedestrian and traffic laws after two major recent accidents along that stretch of roadway.

Officers concentrated their efforts on School Street between Aupuni and Pohaku streets yesterday morning. Officers issued 68 citations to motorists and pedestrians, said Michelle Yu, police spokeswoman. The citations ranged from jaywalking to failing to yield to pedestrians.

Yu said the department's Traffic Division conducted the crackdown after a woman was run over by a bus and killed on June 8 and a man was critically injured June 9 as they crossed School Street.
