NEWTON, Iowa — Helio Castroneves was awarded the pole for Sunday's Iowa Corn Indy 250 after the qualifying session was canceled because water had seeped into the track.
The Iowa 250 will instead be stacked based on entrant points. Castroneves's Team Penske teammate, Ryan Briscoe, will also start on the front line.
Target Chip Ganassi teammates Scott Dixon and Dario Franchitti will run from the second line, followed by Danica Patrick.
Qualifying was delayed for about 75 minutes as officials worked to clear water on the final turn before the finish line. The session eventually got underway, but only three drivers; Scott Dixon, E.J. Viso and Hideki Mutoh were able to run before qualifying was called off.
Though it didn't rain on Saturday, heavy thunderstorms swept through central Iowa on Friday.
