The Honolulu Fire Department is receiving a $5,000 grant from Honolulu insurance agency Cavanah Associates and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company for the purchase of a new thermal imaging camera.
Fireman’s Fund made the announcement yesterday in a news release.
It said the camera will help firefighters “see” through smoke and darkness to quickly locate anyone trapped in a building during a fire.
It will also help firefighters locate hot spots inside walls that they might not otherwise see.
“A thermal imaging camera is an invaluable tool to protect lives and property,” Deputy Fire Chief Alvin Tomita said in a statement.
