Elderly man apparent victim of drowning, officials say
An elderly man died yesterday of an apparent drowning near the Hale Koa Hotel in Waikiki.
City paramedics were called to the area fronting the hotel at about 11:30 a.m. When the ambulance crew arrived, lifeguards were performing CPR on the man.
The man, who appeared to be in his 70s, was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but he later died, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department.
