Hundreds turn out for Duke Bainum service today

Services were held today for the late City Councilman Duke Bainum. His wife Jennifer is consoled by well-wishers before the service.

Current and former state and city officials were among the more than 300 visitors who paid their respects to the late City Councilman Duke Bainum today at Hosoi Garden Mortuary.

Attendees included former Govs. Ben Cayetano and John Waihee, Mayor Mufi Hannemann, former U.S. Rep. Ed Case and former City Councilwoman Ann Kobayashi.
Visitation started at noon and was to be followed by a memorial service starting at 2 p.m.
Bainum will be buried tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. at Diamond Head Memorial Park.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Duke and Jennifer Bainum Foundation, P.O. Box 11120, Honolulu, HI 96828.
Bainum died June 9 from complications due to an aortic aneurysm. He was 56.
Gov. Linda Lingle has ordered all state flags be flown at half-staff today in his honor.
