There were no ugly fights leading to Pablo Cruise quietly fading away from the music scene more than two decades ago.

It was more the group's realization that, after releasing seven albums since 1973 and seeing concert crowds dwindle, their collective star had lost its shine.

By 1986, they all decided to venture out.

"I got married, and when the album sales went south, and the show sales south, I decided I didn't want to be on the road all the time," said Cory Lerios, singer/pianist/songwriter for the group. "It was a tough career decision, but it turned out to be a good one."

It was, particularly for Lerios, who went on to write the music for "Baywatch," "Baywatch Hawaii" and a multitude of other TV shows as well as numerous other musical collaborations.

Lerios isn't sure if "Baywatch" will make it into the playlist for tonight's Pablo Cruise concert at The Waterfront at Aloha Tower Marketplace, but he's happy the band members remained friends and were able to reunite.

"We all just went our own ways for a while, but we kept in touch," Lerios said. "Coming to Hawai'i is like seeing old friends. We were the first band to co-headline at Aloha Stadium back in 1976 with War, and we've always had a big following in the Islands."

You don't have to be a Pablo Cruise fan to know at least two of the band's songs. "Whatcha Gonna Do" and "Love Will Find a Way" have been mainstays on the radio since 1977 and 1978, respectively.

Lerios recently took some time to answer a few questions about the band and how it reunited:

TGIF: Pablo Cruise didn't play together for nearly 20 years, then reunited for drummer Steve Price's wedding. What was it like to be back on stage together — a la wedding singers style?

Lerios: (Laughing) Never thought of it quite that way, but we always make jokes that we don't do weddings — yet.

TGIF: But you did do a wedding — Steve's.

We weren't officially Pablo Cruise again; we were just supporting Steve. And we don't do bar mitzvahs, either ... be sure to put in the 'yet' about the weddings.

TGIF: Which of these will you best be remembered for writing: "Love Will Find A Way," "Whatcha Gonna Do" or the "Baywatch" theme?

Wow. If I can have to be remembered for one of those things, it's gotta be "Love Will Find a way."

TGIF: "Baywatch" or "Baywatch Hawaii"?

Ah ... I've gotta say 'Baywatch Hawaii' because there were such beautiful shows and scenery over there.

TGIF: Beautiful women, too.

(Laughing) I think that's what I meant by the scenery. Plus, we were shooting at the old "Hawaii Five-0" studio, so that was pretty cool.

TGIF: Favorite part about touring again with Pablo Cruise?

It's more like gentlemen's touring, maybe 35 shows a year. None of us play golf, so we go and play with the band on the weekend.

TGIF: Give me one way fans have changed since the touring days.

Instead of throwing panties (laughing), well, you can fill in the blank. Honestly, the real change is probably the audience is more sophisticated.

TGIF: Finish this sentence: Bands today have ...

A multitude of outlets to present their music. When we started, we were part of the faceless-band era. We had our pictures on the records, but we were just at the beginning of MTV when we split. With the Internet now, bands can break virally on every level.

TGIF: One Pablo Cruise song you never get tired of playing at concerts?

"Love Will Find a Way." It's always a great song to play and we never play it the same way. We shake it up.
