Ned Snow of the Big Island won the Yakult HB Pro longboard surfing contest last weekend at Huntington Beach, Calif.
Snow defeated former world champion Colin McPhillips of California in the one-on-one final. Snow's two best waves received a total score of 13.67 to top McPhillips' total of 10.66.
"Being able to surf in the man-on-man format really helped my mindset," said Snow, 23. "I can just go out there and I feel like it's me against the ocean instead of battling a bunch of other guys."
Snow received $1,000 for the win, and also earned points toward qualifying for the ASP World Longboard Tour championship.
Cori Schumacher of California won the women's division.
