Two Kekaha fishermen are safe this morning after a report of a capsized boat had alerted several rescue agencies on Kauai and a search mission had begun.
A Kekaha man who called police told them he and a friend from Waimea on a fishing trip sailed from Kikiaola Boat Harbor in a 12- to 14-ft. Livingston boat Saturday at around 4 p.m.. They were headed back when the boat capsized at around 4 this morning, forcing them to swim to shore in Kekaha.
The Waimea man drove home, and the Kekaha man returned to Kikiaola Boat Harbor.
The Kauai Fire Department, Kauai Police Department, U.S. Coast Guard, and Air-1 were all called at 7:09 Sunday morning after a caller notified Police Dispatch about a boat that was stuck on a reef about 350 yards offshore from a popular surfing spot known as Davidson’s in Kekaha.
The search was called off after the men checked in with police upon hearing sirens and seeing emergency vehicles in the area.
