High winds delay Hokulea's departure for Palmyra Atoll

A planned 1,000-mile trip to Palmyra Atoll aboard the voyaging canoe Hokulea has been canceled for the second time in two days due to high winds.
The crew preparing to take part in the journey were told this afternoon by ship captain Bruce Blankenfeld that they would try again tomorrow.
The 12-person crew plans to sail tomorrow to the atoll using ancient navigational techniques, said crew member Pauline Sato, with the Nature Conservancy.
"We're not going to leave today," said Sato. "... We're still getting ready, but the captain just told me we're going to hold out a little bit longer."
