Boy, 15, driving Moped injured in accident
A 15-year-old boy was seriously injured yesterday when the moped he was driving collided with a Toyota Sedan in front of Benjamin Parker Elementary School.
The moped rider was traveling on Waikalua Road around 11:25 a.m. when he struck the left rear panel of the Toyota as it attempted to turn left into the school. The boy was thrown from the moped, slid on the ground, then hit a parked Ford sedan.
He was taken to a hospital with critical injuries, but was later upgraded to serious condition.
Neither the driver of the Toyota nor a child passenger were hurt.
Police said speed may have been a factor in the accident.
