BOYDS, Md. — U.S. national team goalie Briana Scurry signed Monday with the Washington Freedom of the new Women's Professional Soccer league.
Scurry was selected by the Freedom in the fifth round of the WPS draft. She was the goalie for the U.S. team's 1999 World Cup title run and anchored the American gold-medal teams at the 1996 and 2004 Olympics.
The Freedom also announced the signing of first-round pick Allie Long and U.S. national team veteran Cat Whitehill. Whitehill, Abby Wambach and Ali Krieger were the three marquee players allocated to the Freedom last September.
