BYUH to host NCAA II hoops regional

The third-ranked Brigham Young-Hawai'i men's basketball team received the No. 1 seed in the NCAA II West Regional Tournament and will host a four-team sub-regional Friday at Cannon Activities Center in La'ie.
The Seasiders (25-1), who won the Pacific West Conference with a 12-0 record, will take a 22-game winning streak into their 7:30 p.m. game against eighth-seeded Humboldt State (20-11).
Fourth-seeded Cal State-Dominguez Hills (21-6) will play fifth-seeded Central Washington (18-6) at 5. The winners meet Saturday night at 7:30 for the right to advance to the regional championship game March 17 at the home of the highest remaining seed in the region.
Western Washington (21-6) received the region's second seed and will host the other sub-regional. Western Washington will play seventh-seeded Seattle Pacific (18-9) and third-seeded Cal Poly Pomona (20-6) will meet sixth-seeded Cal State-San Bernardino (20-9).
Ticket prices for the regional tournament at Cannon Activities Center are $8 reserved seats, $6 general admission, and $3 students with ID.

UH VS. NEBRASKA SET
The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team will host 2008 national semifinalist Nebraska in a spring exhibition match March 19 at the Stan Sheriff Center. First serve is 7 p.m.
The Rainbow Wahine finished 2008 with a 31-4 record and No. 7 ranking. The Cornhuskers, who were ousted by eventual national champion Penn State, finished 31-3 and ranked No. 3.
Tickets for the match go on sale today. All tickets will be general admission seating at $7 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and $3 for students ages 4 through high school and UH students. PATACCHIA ADVANCES
Fred Patacchia Jr. advanced to the fourth round of the Quiksilver Pro while fellow Hawai'i surfers Dustin Barca, Kekoa Bacalso and Roy Powers were eliminated yesterday at Snapper Rocks, Gold Coast, Australia.
The third round of the opening event in the 2009 ASP World Tour was held in 3- to 4-foot waves.
Patacchia eliminated Australia's Josh Kerr, 11.70-10.00, and will next meet Brazil's Adriano de Souza.
Barca was bounced by Florida's C.J. Hobgood, 16.50-6.50; Bacalso fell to Australia's Mick Fanning, 18.10-14.50; and Powers lost to California's Dane Reynolds, 15-23-13.87.
TENNIS
UH FINALE RAINED OUT
The final regular-season home match for the University of Hawai'i men's tennis team was canceled yesterday due to inclement weather. The match against San Francisco will not be rescheduled.
The Rainbow Warriors will next play at No. 13 UCLA Wednesday.
