State tax revenues down 5% through first 8 months of fiscal year

State tax revenues fell 6.4 percent through the first eight months of the fiscal year compared with the same period a year earlier, according to the state Department of Taxation.
The state said it brought in $285.8 million in March, including $203.1 million in general excise and use taxes, $20 million in hotel room taxes, $52.2 million in individual income taxes and $1.6 million in corporate income taxes.
Total state revenue for the first five months of the fiscal year was $2.89 billion, compared with $3.08 billion for the same period last year. The fiscal year ends June 30.
