The University of Hawai'i men's team lost to ninth-ranked UCLA Tuesday, but 'Aiea's Dennis Lajola upset the Bruins' Hatheym Abid, the 76th-ranked player in the country, in straight sets on the No. 1 court. Lajola won 6-3, 7-6 (7-0) over Abid, who was coming off an upset of top-ranked Robert Farah of USC.

Lajola's win was the only one in a 6-1 loss at UCLA, as freshman Leo Rosenberg went down in three sets at the No. 3 court and Andreas Weber (2) and Sascha Heinemann (4) lost tiebreakers.

Yesterday, with Lajola out because of illness, the 'Bows lost 4-3 at Loyola Marymount. Hawai'i won the doubles point and Weber won on the No. 1 court, along with Heinemann at No. 3.
