The Office of Hawaiian Affairs' Waimea Valley cultural park is developing a dye and harvesting garden aimed at demonstrating how plants were used for a variety of purposes by Native Hawaiians.

The garden, now in the seedling stage, is expected to come to full fruition in 2012 and will be used for programs demonstrating how to produce dyes from native plants, painting and art classes and also courses on kapa-making and kapa-dying (kapa being the cloth of Hawai'i).
