UPC Solar, a Chicago-based company developing renewable energy projects here, on the Mainland and Canada, has been sold to a San Francisco firm that develops and owns solar power plants.
Recurrent said the acquisition gives it access to solar project opportunities, including those that have had early development work done on Maui, Moloka'i, O'ahu and the Big Island. Recurrent said it will develop, own, finance and operate solar projects that UPC Solar has been planning.
Recurrent spokeswoman Helena Kimball said in an e-mail that the company can't divulge more details on the Hawai'i projects at this time, but that the company likes the opportunities in the state given its initiative to boost use of renewable energy.
