Duckies are ready to race

If the Ala Wai Canal seems extraordinarily yellow this afternoon, it's probably because 20,000 rubber ducks are competing in the 22nd Annual Great Hawaiian Rubber Duckie Race.
The United Cerebral Palsy Association of Hawaii fundraiser kicks off at 9 a.m. at the McCully Shopping Center with entertainment, children's games and a duckie store until 12:30 p.m.
The race itself starts at 1:22 p.m. To participate, you can adopt one duck for $5, or purchase the duckies by the quack pack (four ducks and a T-shirt for $25; 22 ducks and an event T-shirt for $100; 50 ducks, a T-shirt and a UCP 100th anniversary baseball cap for $250).
The first 50 ducks across the finish line win prizes, along with the last duck to cross the line. Prizes include a Las Vegas vacation; a year's supply of gasoline; a birthday party package at Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park; an Apple iPhone and $150 Apple gift certificate; a year's supply of Papa John's Pizza, Duck Tours and dinner at Haleiwa Joe's.
