'Team Aloha' roster unveiled

After playing this past girls basketball season under the radar at Division II Maryknoll, Ashley Agcaoili now finds herself among the state's most high-profile players heading to Tempe, Ariz., next month to represent Hawai'i in the prestigious Arizona Elite tournament.

Agcaoili, a 5-foot-4 sophomore guard, was one of 13 "Team Aloha" players introduced by Mayor Mufi Hannemann yesterday afternoon at a Blaisdell Arena courtside press conference. The Arizona Elite tournament April 17 to 19 features about 200 teams from various age groups, with just as many college recruiters watching.

Agcaoili joins returning Advertiser All-State forward Kamie Imai of Waiakea, Division I state tournament Most Outstanding Player Lia Galdeira of Konawaena and DII Most Outstanding Player Kalei Adolpho of Moloka'i on the Team Aloha roster.

"It's a tremendous honor, especially coming from Maryknoll," Agcaoili said. "In Division II, we don't get much recognition, so I'm proud to represent my family, my school, and the state."

Other team members — selected after a 21-player tryout March 13 and 14 — are Kylie Maeda ('Iolani), Keaton McFadden (Mid-Pacific), Mysha Sataraka (Punahou), Rachel Tailele (Kahuku), Brydgette Tatupu-Leopoldo (Farrington), Milika Taufa (Lahainaluna), Mikela Thoemmes (Roosevelt), Maiki Viela (Lahainaluna) and Lori Yamashita ('Iolani).

The team is coached by Dana Takahara-Dias, assisted by Hannemann.
